ECE alumnus John Cohn gave the keynote talk at the 2008 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS '08) held May 18-21 in Seattle, Washington. His keynote, "Kids these days -- How we can inspire the next generation of Engineers and Scientists" highlighted his passionate efforts over the past 15 years to make engineering fun for nearly 50,000 kids.
ECE Professor Raj Rajkumar believes that autonomous vehicles will change the face of transportation. And he predicts that this technology will be ready for production in 10 years and available in showrooms a couple years after that. As co-director of the new GM-Carnegie Mellon Autonomous Driving Collaborative Research Lab he's going to work to make that happen.
Carnegie Mellon University and Taiwanese officials have established research and educational outreach programs with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). Research at the government-sponsored ITRI Lab@CMU focuses on circuit design and applications in communication, information technology, computer and consumer electronics, and multimedia.
